Main parameters of Heat Shrinkable Tube

2022-03-14

Understanding the 6 basic parameters of Heat Shrinkable Tube can help you choose Heat Shrinkable Tube more quickly.

1.Inner Diameter

As we all know that a cross section of a tube is a cylindrical tube shape, the inner diameter is the distance between the inner walls, usually with Φ the letters, because Φ on engineering are used to mark the diameter, and then followed by a number, indicate the diameter of the values, the default unit is mm (millimeter), for example Φ 6, means inner diameter of 6 MM.

2.Wall Thickness

Wall thickness refers to the thickness of the tube wall, the heat shrink tube plays the role of insulation protection, so the thickness of the tube wall affects the degree of insulation protection, which means that the thicker the heat shrink tube, the stronger the insulation effect.

3.Shrinking Percentage (Shrinkage Rate)

Heat shrinkable tube will shrink when heated, shrinkage rate is also called heat shrinkage rate, heat shrinkage ratio, etc. For example, the inner diameter of the heat shrinkable tube at room temperature is φ 6, and the inner diameter is φ 3 after heating and shrinking. The ratio before and after shrinkage is the shrinkage rate of the heat shrinkable tube, that means, 6/3=2/1, 2:1 is the shrinkage rate of the heat shrinkable tube. The higher the shrinkage rate, the thinner the heat shrinkable tube after shrink.

4.Initial Shrink Temperature

The Initial Shrink Temperature is the temperature at which the heat shrink tube starts to shrink. The temperature at which the heat shrinkable tube is initially shrinked when heated with a heat spray gun or a heat blow. In general, the initial shrinkage temperature of the heat shrink tube is 84℃.

5.Complete Shrink Temperature

Complete shrink temperature indicates the temperature at which the heat shrink tube completely shrinks. The heating and shrinking of heat shrinkable tube is a gradual process. When heat shrinkable tube is heated to 84℃, it only starts the shrinkage reaction, which is not enough to complete the shrinkage of heat shrinkable tube. At this time, it is necessary to continue heating, such as 120℃, heat shrinkable tube complete shrink.

6.Operating Temperature

Operating temperature is an important parameter in the use of heat shrinkable tube, and sometimes it also refers to the rated temperature, which refers to the temperature at which the heat shrinkable tube can be used normally and continuously.  This is also means the ambient temperature at which the heat shrinkable tube can be used normally, usually in a range from -55℃ to +125℃.  Exceeding this temperature range will affect the service life of the heat shrinkable tube.
